Facial Rejuvenation
Collagen
Years of sun exposure, smoking and
aging can diminish the looks of the lips and surrounding skin.
Cosmetic techniques can bring back the lips' beauty, from
making them fuller to diminishing wrinkles, we can dramatically
enhance lips during one outpatient procedure.
Surgeons have traditionally achieved
full lips for patients by injecting collagen, autologen (one's
own tissue), or fat. While these procedures work well, the
drawback is the lasting power of these injectables. “RADIESSE™”
is a new injectable product for lip enlargement and filling
of folds and lines. The advantage of this product over collagen
and other fillers, is the potential for long lasting effects.
This new product has been shown to last up to 3 -5 years!
Another injectable, Restylane Injectable Fillers, is being
used instead of collagen for injecting in the lips and facial
depressions. Hyaluronic Acid Injection Gel / Restylane Fillers
binds with water and generally remains for many months, outlasting
collagen.
For those patients wanting a more permanent
solution, the use of soft facial implants is a good alternative.
The soft facial implants, Gortex or Advanta, are two permanent
implants that are being used for lip enhancement and also
used to smooth the deeper lines between the cheeks and mouth—known
as the naso-labial folds. Because these implants are permanent,
there is no need for further collagen injections.
While the soft facial implants do not
address the fine lines around the lips, laser skin resurfacing
does and can be done in conjunction with facial implants.
Dr. Korpeck performs laser skin resurfacing with the CO2 or
erbium laser at the same time as implanting the facial implants
to smooth the skin surrounding the lips. The laser is so precise
that it attacks only the surface tissue, which causes the
uneven wrinkling. Patients should be aware that like dermabrasion
or facial pees, the laser procedure causes redness, which
can last up to six weeks.
